A new website has been launched to find out what the UK’s 29 million internet users are doing online.
The how e are you? e-test takes less than five minutes to complete and gives users the chance to find out:
Tim Elkington, managing director of online consultants Enhance Media, which is behind the project, said: “How e are you? is free and it’s a bit of fun. So many of us use the internet every day but how do we compare with our friends and colleagues and with the rest of the UK? It will be interesting to know how e we are as individuals and as a nation, and watch how our internet use develops over the years.”
Users will be tested on internet activities ranging from using search engines and email, to joining social networking sites and using webcams and subscribing to RSS feeds. e-scores are calculated using a weighted scale based on the activities completed online.
Participants will also have a chance to win £500 worth of Amazon vouchers and a donation will go to the charity Childnet International for every e-test completed.
Tim Elkington added: “As online consultants, we’re constantly having to keep up to date with new developments on the web and we thought it would be interesting to test the e-state of the nation. We hope how e are you? will become the online user equivalent of the national Consumer Prices Index shopping basket, reflecting the innovation, change and excitement underway on the net.”
How e are you? will be able to answer questions, such as:
Tim said: “It will be intriguing to see the results. We all probably think we use the internet pretty well. But it’s a fast-moving medium and there’s always going to be someone who’s found something you don’t know about, but that you could benefit from.”
Scores from the e-test will be assigned to seven categories:
So far over 7,500 students and colleagues have taken the test. To date no e-virgins have been found and the average e-score is 48 (out of 100).
